Potential cruise clients are constantly asking "why do I need a travel advisor. I like to book directly with the cruise line".

In a previous blog post, we discussed why you should use a travel advisor and how we can help make your life easier. But here is a specific instance that occurred where our client was very thankful that we were there to help him:

Our luxury client, "John", wanted to book suites on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas for 7 passengers. John booked three suites: two grand suites and a junior suite but John really wanted a 2 bedroom suite and a 1 bedroom grand suite, but there were no 2 bedroom suites available. Because they were suites, they were booked as non-refundable deposits.

We constantly monitored John's cruise for a couple months and yesterday, we saw there was a 2 bedroom suite that opened up, even though we were only a few months from the cruise departure.

We called Royal Caribbean and they told us that because we wanted to cancel the junior suite and combine it into a 1 bedroom suite, there would be a $100 per person cancellation penalty. Our star desk contacted their supervisor and we were told they would waive the penalty. The star desk rep combined the 7 passengers into the two new reservations and we were able to keep the onboard credits and benefits.

If you did not use a travel advisor, you would not be able to get the staterooms that you originally wanted.

So next time you
